Just in case you weren’t already aware: Rihanna can do no wrong. Not only is she a literal musical genius, but she’s also running a lingerie brand, a skin-care line, and a makeup company. Everything she touches turns to gold, and her latest product release, the Fenty Beauty Poutsicle Hydrating Lip Stain ($24), is no exception. The lip stain launched last month and quickly went viral on TikTok. Everyone has been talking its silky smooth formula and how long-lasting it is, so I decided to put it to an all-day wear test to see if it truly lived up to the hype.
The Fenty Beauty Poutsicle Hydrating Lip Stain promises to go on glossy and leave behind a soft tint. Depending on how much product you use, the stain can either look sheer or offer medium coverage. The gloss comes in four different shades, but I chose to test it out in the color that was going viral on TikTok, “Berry Banger.”
I have dry skin, and that extends to my lips. Whenever purchasing a lip product, I always look for ingredients that will moisturize. I also have discoloration from spending too much time in the sun without SPF, so I love products that are pigmented enough to cover up the discoloration I have.
The first time I tested this lip stain, I opted to apply it in the morning when my lips were at their worst. Typically when I wake up in the morning my lips are super dry, and I usually pack on a lot of lip balm before putting anything else on them. However, since this product promised to be extra hydrating, I decided to test it out sans balm. My lips were definitely looking dry and crusty, and to be honest I didn’t have much faith that this product would make them look moisturized.
After two quick swipes, it was apparent that the Poutsicle Hydrating Lip Stain was just what it claimed to be: hydrating. The stain completely covered my crusty AF lips and made them look shiny and plump without a dry spot in sight. Fenty Beauty: 1, my dry, crusty lips: 0.
However, the next test would be to see how long the color would actually last. I wore this lip stain for almost an entire day, through two meals and zero touchups. The verdict: it didn’t completely last all day, but it lasted a lot better than I thought it would. By the end of the day, I still had quite a lot of tint on my bottom lip, but the areas around the inside of my lips had faded, and so had most of the stain on my top lip.
The final verdict? While I don’t think this is a product you can go all day without having to reapply, most lip products require a few reapplications, and that won’t deter me from using this product all the time. I loved the color it gave my lips, and it was more hydrating than many lip products I’ve tested in the past. I’m excited to test out other colors of this lip stain, and the “Berry Banger” shade has already landed a permanent spot in my makeup bag.
