Scorpio Monthly Horoscope

MONTH OF January

It’s all about who you know this month, Scorpio! January begins with a cosmic confab in Capricorn as a team of planets activate your third house of communication. Chatty and social as you may feel, however, harmonizer Venus is retrograde here until January 29—AND expressive Mercury also turns retrograde from January 14 to February 3. So apply strong self-editing filters as you get back to networking, sending messages and directing your weekly Zoom meetings. Despite your best efforts, people may feel that you’re coming across as brusque or inconsiderate. Giving instructions? Verify that they’re 100 percent understood (and make sure you’re clear on any marching orders YOU receive).

Your closest ties are a focal point in the second half of the month, when the destiny-driven north node moves into Taurus and your relationship house for the first time since 2004. New alliances could shift the course of your life path—and yes, it really is that serious!

The flip side of that, which is huge for you, is that the karmic south node will linger in Scorpio until July 2023. For the next 18 months, you may go a bit underground at times, immersing yourself in personal growth, learning and perhaps an entire rebrand. Because the south node only comes to your sign every 18.5 years, it’s a powerful time to shed parts of yourself that are no longer “true.” Give yourself the grace and space to let Scorpio 2.0 evolve…and emerge in due time!

Capricorn rules the skies: Sun, new moon, Venus (retrograde) and Mars

Mind your messaging, Scorpio. This month will feature numerous heavenly bodies transiting through the Capricorn part of the sky, activating your third house of communication, community and ideas. From collaborating with kindred spirits to launching a media project to freshening up your “socials,” there will be no shortage of inspo during the Sun’s annual visit to the sign of the practical Sea Goat, which will last through January 19.

Look forward to a blast of mojo as early as the January 2 Capricorn new moon, which is also a supermoon. Negotiating a contract or pitching a multi-phase project? Whatever you start today could fully unfold by the July 13 Capricorn full moon. Stay open to new collaborators from unexpected places! This new moon will get pinged by a favorable trine (120-angle) from Uranus, the planet of change and surprises, which is in your partnership zone. You could meet someone who completely upends your plans…because they’ve got an even better, more outre suggestion. Consider every option, even if it means you have to totally re-map your current trajectory.

If possible, hold off on saying an instant “yes”—and maybe even wait until next month. Balancing Venus is retrograde in Capricorn until January 29, and Mercury turns retrograde January 14 to February 3, backing into Capricorn on January 25. Your normally spot-on “picker” may be a little askew. If you’re getting impatient waiting for answers, you might reactively accept a different offer just to regain a feeling of control.

Don’t make a decision of this magnitude out of fear or anxiety, Scorpio. Instead, ask direct questions and investigate. The annual conjunction (meetup) of the Sun and your ruler, deep-digging Pluto, helps you powerfully consider the pros and cons of any choice. Try the 10-10-10 Rule, a method developed by business expert Suzy Welch. Ask yourself: How will this decision affect me in 10 minutes, 10 months and 10 years?

You’ll get more clarity (and probably even MORE options!) when your co-ruler, Mars, moves into Capricoclass=”body-el-link standard-body-el-link” rn from January 24 to March 6. Mars is “exalted”, in Capricorn, one of its favorite places to hang out. If you’ve been timid or secretive about your opinions, nobody will have to guess where you stand once assertive Mars arrives. Ask the hard questions and don’t gloss over it if you get a vague answer. Just don’t abandon politeness as impatient Mars here can make you come across as pushy and demanding without intending to.

Is learning a new skill on your 2022 agenda? When Mars enters Capricorn, sign up for a short class on a focused topic, from learning to play acoustic guitar to coding in Javascript. Bonus if you get a certification, but most importantly, gain the knowledge that will give you the competence to be self-sufficient—and if it’s work-related, to raise your rates as a result.

Mercury is retrograde from January 14 to February 3

You’ll be glad you took that timeout to connect because oclass=”body-el-link standard-body-el-link” n January 14, Mercury—the planet of communication, travel and technology—will turn retrograde for the rest of the year. Mercury will backtrack through Aquarius and your domestic fourth house until January 25, then it will dip into Capricorn and your communication zone for its final leg, correcting course on February 3.

For the majority of this tricky transit, the mischievous messenger planet will bring friction to your personal life, so you’ll need to take special care to navigate around it. From disagreements with roommates to relatives (especially female-identified ones) working your nerves, you’ll need to practice extreme patience. Mercury retrograde could cause some of your appliances and especially electronics to go on the fritz. If you’re upgrading your digs, take your time to research your options. But hold off on buying that new dishwasher until after the retrograde if you can.

Since retrogrades rule the past, you might reconnect with a long-lost relative or do some research into your family heritage. (Beware: That Ancestry.com kit could get lost in the mail since Mercury rules the postal system.) Don’t be surprised if a wave of nostalgia sweeps over you. In fact, some feelings you haven’t processed could crop up now. This Mercury retrograde can be a healing time, so allow yourself to feel any sadness or hurt that you’ve swept under the rug.

Need to make peace with a loved one after some holiday tension? Extend an olive branch. When Mercury backs into Capricorn and your third house of communication on January 25, an extra dose of self-editing will make all the difference. Tension with a sibling, colleague or neighbor could spike, a warning to go easy in these relationships. Use the time between now and February 3 to edit any writing and presentations and to clear the air wherever there’s been a misunderstanding. Then, you can sail into February (and the Lunar New Year!) with a clean slate.

The January 17 Cancer full moon wants you to think bigger

On January 17, the sky will be aglow with a full moon in Cancer and your big-picture ninth house. Crumple up those sensible resolutions you halfheartedly scribbled a couple weeks ago and think more expansively, Scorpio. Dare to be a little “unrealistic” and impractical with your visions. With the full moon on your side, pushing beyond your comfort zone could reveal opportunities or perspectives you’d normally miss.

The catch? You won’t see those new horizons unless you take a leap of faith, and your sign can skew risk-averse. Truthfully, it’s not a bad idea to take a calculated gamble rather than throwing all caution to the wind. This full moon will be opposite your ruler, controlling and incisive Pluto, which is in your third house of communication.

Translation: As excited as you may be about some of your full-moon epiphanies, Pluto advises that you thoroughly research and map your concepts, crunching numbers and gathering supporting data. Normally, this full moon would favor an off-the-cuff pitch. Today, you’ll go much farther if you can ease people’s minds (and let’s be honest, your own) by making a rock-solid case.

With this full moon in your long-distance connections zone, an opportunity to travel or share your work with a global audience could arise. If you’re not hitting home runs with your current market, quit trying to force it. Do your skills need an upgrade? Sign up for an educational program to feed your curiosity and position yourself for better opportunities in 2022.

The north node enters Taurus on January 18

Where do others end and you begin? The line between “me” and “we” becomes more important than ever to delineate in the latter half of this month. From January 18, 2022, until July 17, 2023, the lunar nodes will travel across the Taurus/Scorpio axis, activating your relationship sector (ruled by Taurus) and your first house of selfhood.

Have you cast aside your priorities to elevate someone else’s? Or, on the flip side, have you become SO set in your ways that there’s no room for another person to contribute to you? In the next year and a half, you’ll have prime opportunities to explore this. Perhaps it’s time to shed certain parts of your identity that you’ve outgrown. There’s no sense in clinging stubbornly—and the karmic south node in your sign will make resistance futile, particularly at the Scorpio eclipses on May 16 and October 25. Sometimes you have to get lost in order to find yourself again.

The north node only visits Taurus every 18.5 years; it was last here from April 15, 2003 to December 26, 2004. If you can remember back to that time, you may see repeating themes arise again. Stay open to new partnerships, both business and personal, because the evolutionary north node could connect you to someone whose soul frequency truly aligns with yours.

And…Uranus turns direct in Taurus on January 18

Is it time to go all in? On January 18, radical changemaker Uranus wakes up from a five-month nap in Taurus and your committed seventh house. A relationship could suddenly zoom toward official status…or you might take a complete detour and call an almost-finished agreement off.

Any duo that feels less than dynamic won’t cut it, especially if you feel the other person is limiting you in some way. Uranus wants freedom of expression and room to roam—and that’s one item you can’t compromise on now! With the north node in Taurus, you need partnerships that bring you to your highest elevation and purpose.

Cozy up! Aquarius season starts on January 19

On January 19, the Sun slips into Aquarius and your fourth house of home, family and emotional foundations for a month. This is your annual month to nurture and nourish yourself, so take advantage of it between now and February 18, when Pisces season will start and catapult you back onto the scene. Need to hibernate? Now’s your chance. Take a mental break while Mercury is retrograde in Aquarius until January 25. Prioritize your feelings (they matter, Scorpio!) and make sure you’re on an even keel.

If you need to clear the air with a family member or take a little break from a relative who got under your skin during the holidays, now’s the time. Moving or fixing up your home? Think “Pinterest” not “paint job” while Mercury’s retrograde so you don’t waste time and money on a decor “don’t” that was better in theory than practice.

Friendly fire? Romantic Venus is making an extended visit to Capricorn and your social third house from November 5, 2021, to March 6, 2022. Previously platonic peeps could start to hold romantic allure, or you could be introduced to a compelling prospect through mutual friends.

The rub? Venus is retrograde in Capricorn until January 29, a tricky cycle that happens every 18 months (in different signs) and can disrupt the harmony of your closest ties. Retrogrades turn our attention to the past, helping us address unfinished business, whether that’s dealing with an ongoing conflict or an old flame creeping back into the picture.

With passion planet Mars in Sagittarius and your second house of day-to-day affairs, you could be eager to get a firm answer from someone or to smooth out money issues. Work might be busy and demanding, which can shorten your temper. Snapping at people will make for a messy cleanup that adds to your Venus-retrograde burden. Be clear about your parameters and make sure that the limited time you DO have together is extra-special. Little treats go a long way!

When Mars joins Venus in Capricorn on January 24, you’ll be much more in the mood for conversations and whatever semblance of socializing is possible during these times. Both planets will be here until March 6, so you’ll have a few solid weeks to make up for lost time. For couples, this can be a productive transit for clearing the air—as long as you give each other equal time to speak. Use “I” sentences rather than “you” phrases to prevent your partner from getting defensive. (It’s a “101” technique that’s so easy to forget!)

Can’t seem to get past your differences? Feeling down about meeting anyone with all the new pandemic restrictions? Venus prompts you to turn your attention elsewhere this month. You could (safely) meet up with friends, read a book or do some self-improvement work on your mindset. That way, when Venus and Mars unite in Capricorn under better conditions mid-February, you’ll be in a much better place to create the love story YOU want to tell.

More, more, more? Driven Mars is racing through Sagittarius and your second house of work, money and security until January 24. Mars has been here since December 13, turning up the pressure to perform (even during a pandemic holiday season) but also positioning you for a big win. Deadlines could be short and tempers even shorter with stressful Mars at full burn, so be careful how much you pile on your professional plate so early in the year. However, if you need to lean in to a big project that might pay off handsomely, you’ll have a full tank to do it. Prioritize, streamline and schedule!

Mars can ramp up stress, and you may be dealing with a large expense or budgetary shortage. Demanding clients could push you to the edge of your patience. Set clear boundaries before you hit your breaking point. If you’re interviewing or pitching, pause to check in with the other person since you could come on a little too strong now. No need to hard-sell yourself!

With so many planets in Capricorn and your communal third house—and the north node moving into Taurus (your partnership sign) on January 18—you’ll go farther when you link up with a synergistic soul or two, merging your superpowers and playing to your strengths. Have communications gotten bottlenecked? With Venus and Mercury both retrograde this month, it’s a smart time to get your processes in place. Open the channels for dialogue and target any inefficient areas, identifying how you can get things flowing smoothly again.
