Selena Gomez Wears Great Winter Parka in Coney Island

Not much is known about the plot of Only Murders in the Building season 2, but Selena Gomez’s character Mabel will end up on Coney Island at some point, right by the Wonder Wheel. Paparazzi photographed Gomez filming there with co-star James Caverly, who plays Theo. (It’s an interesting duo, for those who watched the first season.) And it seems like they’re doing some sneaky things:

Gomez was dressed in a very Gossip Girl-like blue plaid mini skirt and sweater outfit; she was previously seen wearing a tan coat layered over the look. But outerwear can change the entire vibe of an outfit. For Gomez’s Coney Island scene, her winter parka, long black scarf, and gray beanie render the pairing decidedly more casual.

Only Murders in the Building costume designer Dana Covarrubias spoke to ELLE.com during the show’s first season about Gomez’s character Mabel’s style—and why she wears so many bright-colored clothes.

“Her whole concept was basically that her costumes were a type of armor,” Covarrubias said. “So she’s using these really bright colors in the same way as an animal with a brightly colored coat: ‘Beware. Danger. Leave me alone. Back off.’”
